If you look carefully you will spot an approaching van (the only vehicle we passed on this road). Only one vehicle can pass at a time, so one has to back up a way so the other can pass. So we backed up quite a long way onto a field. Later when we proceeded past where you see the van now, we were furious to find there was a passing place right there!!!
