This was the original style quarters where the crew slept, ate and stored therir belongings wher they lived. It was not very efficient in terms of space, but this had been inherited from the early days of sailing. During a later refit, the Belfast incorporated American lessons in terms of separating sleeping quarters from storage and dining areas. The Americans had not inherited the "old ways" and had gone for a more practical approach in their warships.
