Last Flying Avro Shackleton Mk3 in the World

The Avro Shackleton Mk3 was decommissioned by the South African Air Force in 1984. It was used for maritime reconnaissance, anti submarine warfare and search and rescue missions along the southern African coast for a period of 26 years. Today, South Africa has the only airworthy Shackleton Mk.3 in the world! But with less than 50 hours flying time left - time is catching up very fast with no. 1722. Thanks to a handful of dedicated enthusiasts who ensure the pristine condition of this grant old lady of the sky - visitors to airshows are treated to at least two flying displays per year. It is based in Cape Town.
