Du Toit's Kloof Pass Tunnel, South Africa

Instead of taking the 10km Huguenot Tunnel under the Hottentot's Holland Mountains, I decided to go over the mountain on the old pass. Here is a view of the entrance of the old tunnel. Italian Prisoners of War were used in the construction of much of the Du Toits Kloof Pass - a plaque erected at one of the scenic viewpoints on the pass and a cross set on a nearby mountain peak commemorate the efforts of these internees. This pass was finally opened on 26 March 1949 and included this 300 m tunnel. Descending on the other side offered spectacular views of Paarl.
