When supper was not included as part of the tour, we bought food in local supermarkets such as fruit, beer, etc. Some things that amazed us were that you could buy beer in a supermarket (back home it had to be a specially licensed place), their bananas and apples were spotless (we export much fruit from South Africa to other countries but the fruit remaining in our country seems to be the second grade fruit, and our bananas are curved - the one's we got in Paris were straight), I found beer that was 10% alcohol which was just too strong to be tasty, and the supermarkets would not accept a credit card for perishable groceries!
