Mathematical Bridge at Cambridge, England

flickr-409975164.jpg Steam Locomotive Cabin, York Railway Museum, York, EnglandThumbnailsEntrance to King's College, Cambridge, England

The Mathematical Bridge, crossing the River Cam into Queen's college, apparently got its name from the apocryphal story that Sir Isaac Newton constructed the bridge so as to hold together without riveting. Legend holds that it was taken apart to see how it was constructed, and no one was able to figure out how to get it back together again. Today it stands, but with rivets.
