Setup my own hosted Friendica and Hubzilla Social Network nodes for comparison

HubzillaFriendica.png Side-by-Side comparison of photo management with Hubzilla and FriendicaThumbnailsProof that NextCloud protects its users' encrypted data from admins - it rendered my data unusable after a password "loss"

Both of these social networks are powerful in their own right in terms of not just detailed profiles and blog posting, but also have photo galleries, calendars, messaging, integration with Twitter and other networks, and of course federated posts across Diaspora, Mastodon, GNUSocial, each other, and also other networks.

What I was showing in the attached photo is the profile view of each (Friendica on top and Hubzilla below it) and more specifically how my auto-imported (mirrored) RSS feed gets imported. Both import the text fine but Hubzilla does better in terms of perfectly displaying the post along with its image.

I hear some asking what is Friendica or Hubzilla? Essentially I'm hosting my own "Facebook" which my friends and family (or I could open to the public) could use just like Facebook but without adverts or privacy intrusions. One difference here is various people host their own "nodes" but anyone on any of the nodes can follow someone at a different node as if it is all one big hosting platform. This gives flexibility for different rules and functionality at each node. The hoster can make them as open or closed (private) as they want to.

I'll post more observations in future about the two networks. My profiles are at https://friendica.gadgeteerza.co.za/profile/danie and at https://hubzilla.gadgeteerza.co.za/channel/gadgeteer.
